Management of Sustainability

Raw Materials

The main raw material of Soalon is derived from natural trees. FSC® forest certification is a system that allows products made from wood harvested from properly managed forests and other low-risk raw materials to be labeled with the FSC® label and sold as certified products under standards set by the Forest Stewardship Council®, an international NGO.

Mitsubishi Chemical is also a supplier procuring raw materials, and in 2017 we acquired FSC® Chain of Custody Certification for our filament production at Toyama Plant, our Soalon manufacturing plant. In addition, we have received the Biomass Mark certification, which is a mark of environmental products that utilize biological resources (biomass).

Yarn Production

bluesign® is a system that provides safer and more sustainable environments for people to work in and everyone to live in. Powered by a holistic approach, bluesign® traces each textileʼs path along the manufacturing process, making improvements at every stage from factory floor to finished product. For example, at Toyama Plant we use organic solvents in the SOALON manufacturing process, but we carry out appropriate treatment and thorough recovery and reuse.Through strict control from the perspective of the environment, labor and consumers, We become bluesign® SYSTEM PARTNER and SOALON is certified as bluesign® APPROVED.

Original Standards

SOALON™Sustainable Program is designed to quantify and classify the degree of environmental burden of different textile products individually, and to visualize issues to be addressed in order to improve them. We classify details, processes, and techniques varying by product at each phase of textile production such as designing,weaving/knitting, and dying. We grade and evaluate them according to unique criteria to expected to clarify the points for individual improvements, and we aim to further improve the sustainability of the entire SOALON™ product group.
